About Darroch (Rick)

Darroch (Rick) Robertson is a Professor Emeritus at the Ivey School of Business at Western University. Rick has more than 40 years of academic experience in the accounting, finance and tax areas. He has taught at the undergraduate, MBA and executive MBA and the PhD level. He was won several teaching awards at Ivey including being a three-time winner of the David C. Burgoyne Award for outstanding commitment to student development. His publications focused on accounting for corporate taxes, corporate pension plans and financial planning. He received his undergraduate degree, MBA and PhD from Ivey. He earned his CA in 1979 with the accounting firm that is now known as Ernst & Young and returned to work for them in 1991 as a senior tax manager. He has completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course. In 1997, he was elected a fellow (FCA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO). During his time at Ivey Rick assumed various leadership roles including the Director of Public Executive Programs, the Director of the HBA Program from 1999 to 2004 and the Director of the Ivey MBA Program from 2005 to 2007 and again in 2008 to 2009. He has served as the Chairperson of the Examinations Committee at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) and served as a member of the CICA Task Force on Corporate Income Tax. He has served as an elected member of council for the ICAO from 1999 to 2005 and was the Chair of the ICAO Audit Committee from 2003 to 2005. Rick served as Chair of the Audit Committee of Stackpole Limited, a TSX listed company, prior to its takeover and as Chair of the Audit Committee of Northcore Technologies Inc. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Ivey Alumni Association. In the not-for-profit area he served for nine years as a public representative on the audit committee of the Thames Valley District School Board and served as a member of the board and chair of the audit committee for the St. Thomas and Elgin General Hospital. Upon moving to the KW area in 2021, Rick joined the board of Community Support Connections, serving as Treasurer. He served three years as a member of the board of St. Mary’s Hospital and for two years was Chair of the Joint Board Committee of the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team. He currently is a public representative on the Finance and Audit committee of Waterloo Regional Health Network.
