Gillian Sweeney’s professional journey began as a registered nurse in neonatal and pediatric care. After earning her MBA, she transitioned into strategic roles in health care where she managed recruitment, labour relations and clinical operations. She then joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information as Vice President, Clinical Information Programs and Change Leadership and led the province’s digital health strategy overseeing the provincial implementation of electronic health records, virtual care and change management frameworks. In 2020, she was recognized as a Woman Leader in Digital Health by Digital Health Canada and was also awarded the Leadership in Digital Health Award by the Canadian Health Informatics Awards. Her current role is Assistant Deputy Minister with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Gillian is passionate about evidence-based, system level change that is grounded in stakeholder engagement. She currently serves on the Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Directors as Secretary and Chair, Governance Committee and has previously served on the Digital Health Canada Board of Directors.
